Skyla Spencer scores a Half-Page Feature in Country Weekly!
Jul 20, 2009
Nashville, TN (July 20, 2009) – As "This Girl" continues to work its way up the charts, SKYLA SPENCER continues to find ways to share her music. Most recently, she reaches out to the readers of Country Weekly magazine! The Winter Creek Records artist, songwriter, professional dancer, and choreographer has scored a half-page feature in the newest issue of the nationally-distributed publication! Skyla graces the lower half of page 54 in the Listen Up! section of the July 27 issue, which hits newsstand TODAY! (Blake Shelton is on the cover.)

This is Skyla's first appearance in Country Weekly, and it's an occasion she is - needless to say - very excited about. "It is a thrill and great honor to be included in the Listen Up! section of Country Weekly!" A longtime fan of the publication herself, she continues, "I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to reach out to Country Weekly readers and to my fans. It is a wonderful and very surreal feeling!"

It seems most fitting that "This Girl" is the song that gives Skyla the opportunity to make her debut in one of country music's longest running magazines. Inspired by personal experiences, Skyla and her co-writer friend, Heather Andrews, set out to write a song that would empower girls and women of any age. She shares, "The song sends the powerful message to never give up on your dreams, never give up on love, and to remember that nothing is out of reach if you believe!"

It wasn't that long ago that Skyla dreamed about having a featured piece in Country Weekly, thinking to herself, How cool would it be to be in this magazine. Today, she realizes this dream. It is a memorable career milestone in and of itself - but even more meaningful because it will allow Skyla to share her song and message with a broader fan base. With music as her vehicle, Skyla consciously drives toward creating music that will touch people's lives. "Through my music, I hope to bring a smile to someone's face and lift them up in some way."

Her current single does just that! "Making a difference and having an impact on someone's life is my main focus. I write songs from personal experiences and from other people's life. To share my music with one of the most well respected and known country music magazines and its readers is truly awesome!"

The July 27 print issue of Country Weekly is on sale from today through Sunday, July 26, 2009.

Also, beginning TODAY, fans are invited to download a FREE mp3 of "This Girl" by visiting www.countryweekly.com/freemusic. Download period for Skyla’s single will run two weeks: July 20 through August 3, 2009.

This Girl” Wants to Hear From YOU!

May 19, 2009
Nashville, TN (May 19, 2009) – Winter Creek Records artist, songwriter, professional dancer, and choreographer, SKYLA SPENCER, wants to hear what her fans have to say! Skyla has just released a NEW single to radio titled “This Girl.” The single is featured on CDX Vol. 474, which was distributed nationally on Monday, May 11. It is a powerful and energetic song that vows in the light of struggles and dire circumstances, “This Girl” will not give up!

Skyla shares insight into the significance of the song’s message: “This song is about life and all the struggles you may encounter in your life. Life throws you curve balls sometimes, but you have to keep going and push through tough times. I believe with determination, hard work, and faith you can overcome anything.” The song’s message is the core of Skyla’s personal philosophy on life: "Never give up on what you want in life. It's about overcoming the hard times and realizing that with faith, all things are possible."

"You can break me down, take my dreams, but you'll never get to the heart of me.”

Those lyrics from “This Girl” ring true for both co-writers on the song – Skyla and close friend, Heather Andrews – each of whom drew inspiration for the song from personal experiences.

Skyla shares her journey in becoming an established country music recording artist and songwriter: “Before moving to Nashville, I am sure some people thought I was crazy for taking off to Music City to chase my dream. I grew up in a small town in West Virginia and always had big dreams of being a successful singer and songwriter in Nashville, hearing my songs on the radio, and singing on the Grand Ole Opry stage. It's not been an easy journey, but it's through the struggles that you learn about yourself, about life, and gain personal growth from those experiences.”

She continues: “There is almost always going to be people you come across in your life who will say you can't do something, that your dreams are unattainable, that you better find something else to do. It is during those times that we must hold on to what is true in our hearts and what we believe we can achieve. We all are blessed with different gifts. It's how you use your gifts that really makes a difference in this world.”

Heather also reaches into her past for lyrical inspiration. “I’ve learned that life isn't worth living unless you are fighting for what you love and that if you truly want something and work for it, you can make it happen. When we wrote it, I thought about all the people who gave me funny looks when I said I was moving to Nashville by myself to be a songwriter/lyricist – or when I said I wanted to be a songwriter when I was younger.” She adds, “We may not be in the big leagues (yet) and there might be a long road ahead, but there is always possibility if you keep at it. If it's in your heart – no matter what anyone says – if you stay true to yourself, they can't take that piece away. Even the small accomplishments are great ones. I'm blessed to have the opportunity to achieve my dreams and live them by co-writing this song and sharing it with you all.”

Skyla and Heather dedicate “This Girl” to girls of all ages who are determined and ambitious fighters, who have not given up on life, achieving her dreams, finding her soul mate or true happiness!

In conjunction with her single release, Skyla is inviting fans to listen to “This Girl” and then share their own stories about the strong girls and women in their lives! Whether the struggles have come with pursuing a dream or career, through becoming a survivor from a terminal illness or other dire circumstances, Skyla has launched a special section on her website where fans can send in their stories: www.skylaspencer.com/this_girls_story.htm.

All submitted stories will be posted on Skyla’s official artist website as soon as they are approved. In addition, Skyla will choose her favorite one in June, and the person who submitted that story will receive an AUTOGRAPHED copy of the “This Girl” single, plus an AUTOGRAPHED 8x10 photo from Skyla!

"This Girl" is now streaming in its entirety on Skyla’s Official Artist MySpace page at www.myspace.com/skylaspencer! The single will also be available for purchase soon on iTunes, CD Baby and Skyla's own website, www.skylaspencer.com .

Skyla is currently choreographing a line dance for “This Girl,” which she plans on teaching at downtown Nashville’s World Famous Wildhorse Saloon in a few weeks.

Next month, Skyla will once again be participating in the CMA Music Festival, where she will hold autograph sessions in a number of sponsor booths. Skyla will also be giving interviews to talk about her new single.
